Alex Joins THG: Automotive Interest turns into Race Team Mechanic & Automotive Genius
Alex’s journey into the world of automotive engineering and car building began at a remarkably young age. His earliest memory of working with machinery dates back to when he was about 7 years old.
Driven by curiosity and mechanical interest, he took apart a vintage Snapper lawn mower with the ambitious goal of building his own go-kart.
This early project ignited his passion for using tools and understanding mechanical systems. The moment that truly opened the door to his automotive obsession came shortly in his Uncle Bill’s early 70s Chevy C10 pickup.
The truck had a small block Chevy engine, leaving an impression that would last a lifetime. He vividly remembers when he turned his Chevy hat around, Uncle Bill would respond by flooring it. The raw power, the intoxicating sound, and the unforgettable aroma of that truck created an experience that solidified his passion for cars. From these experiences, his interest in cars and car building grew dramatically.
Alex quickly progressed from basic tinkering to more complex projects, constantly seeking to expand his knowledge and skills.
His hands-on approach, coupled with an insatiable curiosity about automotive technology, laid the foundation for his future career in the field.
During high school, he continued honing his skills by competing in the SkillsUSA Automotive Competition. His performance in this competition caught the attention of industry professionals and led to an incredible opportunity.
He was awarded a prestigious scholarship through the Goodyear Grad Program, a joint initiative between NASCAR and Goodyear Tires. This scholarship not only validated his skills and passion but also provided the means to further his education in automotive technology. From there, he took another huge step.
He attended Lanier Technical College, where he completed their comprehensive Motorsport Technology Program. This specialized education provided him with a strong foundation in the technical aspects of motorsports and high-performance vehicles, further preparing him for a career in racing and the automotive industry.
